Eric Schmidt

Eric has been involved in EMS since 1981 when it was almost all volunteer, to today with a predominantly paid workforce. Through those times and transitions, he has witnessed the incredible evolution of the care provided and the onset of the current crisis. He is the Chief of Shaler Hampton EMS and a member of Citizens Concerned for EMS, a grassroots advocacy group composed of EMS leaders, educators, and physicians with one focus: preserving and improving the EMS system in Pennsylvania. Eric has been involved in EMS for more than 40 years, from when it was almost exclusively volunteer to the current time with a predominantly paid workforce. Through these years, he has witnessed the incredible evolution in the care provided by EMS providers. He is currently the Chief of Shaler Hampton EMS. This 501c3 non-profit is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by each of the municipalities they serve and are primarily elected officials. He also currently serves on the Executive Board of the EMS West, which is the largest EMS region in PA, the Executive Board of Allegheny County EMS, where he is the Chair of the EMS Chiefs Association. Most recently, he was elected as an at-large board member of the Ambulance Association of PA. Lastly, he is a member of Citizens Concerned for EMS (CC4EMS), a grassroots advocacy group composed primarily of retired EMS leaders, educators, and physicians with one focus: preserving and improving the EMS system in Pennsylvania.
