This lecture prepares EMS providers to manage those babies that just won't wait for the hospital! This lecture prepares EMS providers to stabilize newborns during the critical first minutes after birth in the prehospital setting. Participants will review neonatal assessment, thermoregulation, airway management, effective ventilation, and indications for chest compressions and advanced resuscitation. Emphasis is placed on recognizing normal versus abnormal transition, using evidence-based Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) principles, and applying practical skills to optimize outcomes when caring for newborns before hospital arrival.
