EMS and Athletic Trainers: Bridging the Gap and Building a Team

This session will   provide EMS professionals with more information on athletic trainers (who   they are, education and training, and scope of practice) and how to build a   collaborative team for the best interest of the patient. This includes when   EMS is standing by at athletic events and also when responding to 911 calls when an athletic trainer is already on the   scene. We will address sports equipment removal techniques (football, hockey, lacrosse), tips for improving communication, review of emergency action plan   requirements, and transfer of care guidelines. Practical suggestions will be   provided for interprofessional training opportunities and collaborations.
